Please bring to class to discuss two essays on your favorite subject or topic (whether academic or personal). Please be mindful of legitimate sources (not fringe internet) and aim to find the significant sources for your topic or field. Remember Gerald Graff’s words from his essay, “Hidden Intellectualism”: “Make an argument, weigh different kinds of evidence, move between particulars and generalizations, summarize the views of others, and enter into a conversation about ideas” (251). “See your subject ‘through academic eyes,’ that is, to think and write about your [topic] . . . in a reflective, analytical way, one that sees [it] as microcosms of what is going on in the wider culture” (254).
