Howard Payne University Disruptive Student Behaviors Discussion

Howard Payne University Disruptive Student Behaviors Discussion

Question Description

Handling difficult situations in the classroom can be challenging, especially for new teachers. Having a plan in place and observing and collaborating with other teachers can be helpful to ensure the learning environment is safe. Disruptive behavior has a cause and with careful and thoughtful insight, effective interventions can be put in place to minimize them and help the student be a productive and happy member of the classroom. Observe how your mentor addresses disruptive behavior in your field experience classroom. Speak with your mentor about the type of data they gather on disruptive students and how they apply that data to their classroom management approach.
Discuss the following with your mentor teacher:
• What methods do you use to address disruptive student behaviors?
• What types of data do you collect on disruptive students? How often do you collect data?
• When a behavior occurs, how do you ethically document and share data, referrals, detention slips, and/or note keeping? Why is this important to keep in mind in the moment?
• With whom do you share this data?
• Do you share the data with the student? Explain your rationale.
• Provide an example of how you adjust your classroom management plan based on the data collected.
• What data about classroom disruptive behavior is collected by administrators, and how is it used?
Use any remaining field experience hours to assist the mentor teacher in providing instruction and support to the class.
In 250-500 words, summarize your interview. In addition reflect upon your observations, discussion, and classroom support. Was your mentor teacher’s approach to disruptive behavior effective? Why or why not? In your future professional practice, do you think your approach to disruptive behavior will be similar to that of your mentor teacher, or will your approach be different? If the latter, what will you do differently?
APA format is not required, but solid academic writing is expected.
